Paper:  RICHARD RORTY ON TRADITIONAL PHILOSOPHY

Author(s):  ASGHARI MOHAMMAD*

* UNIVERSITY OF TABRIZ

Abstract:
We have been investigated different ideas of Richard Rorty and I result of this paper shows that he contributes some features and important properties to the western traditional philosophy which begins from Plato. Rorty criticizes these features. This investigation only refers six important features of traditional philosophy in various writings of Rorty which are very important in his philosophy. These features are: (1) escape from history,(2) being based on epistemology, (3) being base of culture, (4) being redemptive, (5) research of truth and non-human reality, (6) account of mind as mirror of nature.

Paper:  IRRECONCILABLE RELATION OF "REASON" AND "FAITH" IN KIERKEGAARD'S THOUGHT

Author(s):  ASGHARI MOHAMMAD*

* DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY AT TABRIZ UNIVERSITY

Abstract:
This article considers the relation of reason and faith in Kierkegaard's existentialist Thought. Kierkegaard describes the faith as a kind of "passion", "leap" or "relation to God" and believes that it is over reason and sometimes has position that is completely against reason. According to Kierkegaard, the faith can save us but we cannot know the faith by reason. He defend faith against reason, hence he is called a "Fideist". In addition, this article tries to show that it is found a sort of rationalism in Kierkegaard's works, especially when he is articulating the nature of faith; but his rationalism is not similar to the rationalism of enlightenment.

Paper:  LEVINAS'S DEFENSE OF SUBJECTIVITY OF DESCARTES

Author(s):  ASGHARI MOHAMMAD*

* TABRIZ UNIVERSITY

Abstract:
This article concerned with Levinas's defense of Subjectivity of Descartes.
Levinas establishes the base of his philosophy on Cartesian "cogito" and he is influenced by Husserl. He, like Descartes, considers the content of Cogito and reaches to idea of Infinity (God) and then articulates it in terms of concepts such as "Other". He against Descartes believes that place of God is in ethics not in metaphysics. But he has not agreement on this issue with Descartes. We have been tried to show that Levinas is a Cartesian because he accepts the cogito and idea of infinity (God).

Paper:  MORAL MESSAGE OF RICHARD RORTY'S PHILOSOPHY

Author(s):  ASGHARI MUHAMMAD*

* TABRIZ UNIVERSITY

Abstract:
The present article tries to show that Rorty's philosophy has some moral message. To do so, we have to look at the contents of some of his books and in particular After Philosophy and The Mirror of Nature. The above-mentioned moral message may be, implicitly or explicitly, seen in his neo-pragmatist ideas and thoughts in the form of concepts and terms such as "solidarity", "democracy", and "cultural politics". In many places, of course, Rorty expresses this message in literary language and in particular through novelists. The present study, of course, is not intended to prove that, like Kant, Rorty has some philosophy of morality, since he is one of the stubborn critics of Kantian morality. Rorty's neo-pragmatist and critical approach to Kantian morality is influenced by pragmatism of Dewey, James and Levinas' philosophy.

Paper:  THE POSITION OF SOCRATES IN KIERKEGAARD’S RELIGIOUS APPROACH

Author(s):  ASGHARI MOHAMMAD*

*

Abstract:
This paper is an effort to illustrate the position of Socrates in Kierkegaard’s religious and existential approach. If we have a brief look on Kierkegaard’s writings, we will realize that he was seriously affected by Socrates and primarily was inspired by him.
Kierkegaard compares Socrates with Abraham, "knight of faith" and tries to places the non-Christian and pagan Socrates in the domain of his Christian thought background. He also calls Socrates as a tragic hero and tries to play his role in 19th century. This paper is going to through investigating of Kierkegaard’s writings verify the above-mentioned hypothesis.

Paper:  KIERKEGAARD’S ABRAHAM AND LEVINAS’S ABRAHAM

Abstract:
We considered two different narrative of story of Abraham in the thought of Sorn Kierkegaard and Levinas. This article has two sections. Section one involves Kierkegaard’s existentialistic picture of Abraham which it try to explain suspending of ethics by overcoming of faith on reason. Kierkegaard believed that Abraham will save by suspending of ethics and the sacrifice of Isaac is not transgressing ethics. Section two involves Levine’s ethical picture of Abraham and the sacrificing of Isaac. Levinas holds that high moment in this story is moment that Abraham hears second voice of God and he return to ethics, hence he does not kill Isaac.
According to Levinas, the relation between Abraham and God is only possible by face of Isaac and Levinas describes this relation as “face to face” relationship. He states that the essence of this relationship is ethical not religious.
